Please purchase this textbook at MCCC bookstore to assure that you have all required components.   The textbook will be sold as a bundle which includes two textbooks (Office and Concepts) and SNAP training and assessment software.     You MUST have the SNAP software to complete the course, therefore, I strongly recommend purchasing the textbook as ‘new’ from the MCCC textbook.

SOFTWARE and DATA FILES
In order to successfully complete the course, you MUST have access to Office 2007 software.  The Windows component of the course can be completed using Windows 98/NT/ME/XP or 2000. The textbook uses Internet Explorer 7.0, but there are just a few options that are new. You will be fine with any version of the browser. The textbook is written for the XP Operating System and prior. If you have Vista, you will notice a few minor differences between the textbook and your system. You will still be fine with completing the course material with Vista as long as you are willing to make minor adjustments.

If you do not have access to the above software, you can use the MCCC network on the Central or West campus to complete your assignments.     Refer to the 'Frequently Asked Questions' document for information on purchasing discounted software and getting a free copy of Access 2007 through the MSDN program.

Data files used in this textbook must be downloaded via the Internet.    Instructions for installing these data files on your PC will be included as a lecture topic under Week 2 or you can just go to the publisher web site and get the material.

Lastly, you will need SNAP training and assessment software which will be included in your textbook bundle.

MEETING TIMES / LOCATIONS
None.
All work will be completed at your convenience and submitted to me via the Assignments tab or e-mail by the due date.    Please check discussion board postings early each week and respond by the following Monday.  There will be a midterm and final exam which will be administered at the Central campus.  You will be able to take this exam any time the testing center is open during the scheduled test dates.   Administrative details will be posted on the week preceding the exam.

Final grades are calculated as follows:
    94-100 = A       90-93 = A-             87-89 = B+      84-86 = B        80-83 = B-     77-79 = C+     70-76 = C         60-69=D      Under 60=F

WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS:
Every student must complete the assignments posted each week on the Course Documents section.   Assignments are posted on Monday and are due at midnight on the date specified (generally 1-2 weeks).  Each lab is graded on a scale of 1-10 and will be submitted as specified (normally via the assignments link).    Lab work, assignments and quizzes must be submitted on time to receive full credit.     I understand that things in life happen - illness, computer problems, e-mail issues, you forgot etc.    Therefore, I will leave assignment links open for one week past the due date.      If you submit an assignment past the due date, expect 1) a 2 point grade reduction and 2) a substantial grading delay.   I go back and grade late assignments as time permits so it may be several weeks later.   After an assignment is one week past the due date, the link to submit the assignment will be removed and the assignment can no longer be submitted for a grade.

Midterm and final exams must be taken during the dates posted or you will receive a 0 for the exam.    If you can’t take the exam during the scheduled period, you must contact me at least one week before the exam to discuss alternate arrangements.    I reserve the right to make the final decision as to whether or not the exam will be rescheduled.     I recommend that you plan to take the exam early in the testing timeframe so you can reschedule in case you have a problem.   The midterm exam must be taken at the Testing Center at Central campus.   The Final exam is a project.

Plan to spend a lot of time at a computer working on your assignments. It is a fact of life: Assignments are due when computers break down. Plan accordingly!  Don't wait until the last minute to get your work done.

DISCUSSION GROUP/FORUMS:
Every student must participate in our Help Forum and other discussions as posted.   This will be a place to share discoveries, ask questions, answer questions, clarify ideas and post required assignments.   Classroom discussions are accessed by selecting the Discussion Board tab.

The discussion forum is worth 10% of your grade.    To get full credit for this portion of the grade, you must respond to all required discussions and have at least 7 significant postings in the Help Forum.    You can either be 'requesting help' or 'answering' another student's question to get credit.  If you know everything but never participate in the discussion forum, your grade for the discussion group will be zero.   This could reduce a final grade an A to a B!

WITHDRAWEL POLICY:
Students can withdraw without signature up until the middle of the course. I will continue to grant withdrawal requests up until April 15th.  This will give you plenty of time to evaluate your course status and decide if you want to stay in the course. If you do not withdraw by April 15th, you will receive a final grade for the course.

STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES:
Students with disabilities may be eligible for accommodations in this course.  Please contact the Director of Services for Students with Disabilities in the Disability Services Center, College Hall 131, (215) 641-6575 or 6574, for more information.  At the West Campus, contact the Coordinator of Disability Services in the Student Development Center at (610) 718-1853.

OTHER:
All students are expected to adhere to the Student Academic Code of Ethics and the Student Code of Conduct as published on the MCCC web site.  Essentially, you must complete and submit your own work, treat each other with respect and not re-use work from a previous class without permission    If you share your homework with another student, you are equally guilty of plagiarism.
