There are a myriad of philosophical approaches to teaching. Yet after 25 years in education, I've found that the learning process appears fairly consistent for most people. Students gain knowledge and learn "how to learn" when they confront situations that demand information and thinking beyond their existing level of competence. In seeking new knowledge we are challenged to examine our previous life experiences, learn from the experiences of others, and use personal reflection. This process then becomes the foundation upon which students build successful careers and fulfilling lives.
