MONTGOMERY COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE
MAT 132
Introduction to Statistics II
3-3-0
CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
A continuation of MAT 131 with business applications including statistical inference and decision procedures, regression, correlation, chi-square distribution, time series, quality control and index numbers. A graphing calculator is required for classes, homework and testing. Classroom instruction and programs will be presented using a TI-81 or TI-83.
PREREQUISITES
MAT 131 with a minimum grade of "C"
LEARNING GOALS
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to
1. Determine the appropriate statistical procedure to be used for problems encountered primarily in Business and Economics.
2. Design and perform statistical experiments.
3. Use the methods of quality control to determine whether standards are being met in a firm.
4. Use the TI-82 or TI-83 to ease tedious statistical computations.
5. Use the statistical capabilities of spreadsheets in Excel software.
LEARNING ACTIVITIES
Lectures, enhanced by graphing calculator demonstrations, workshops in the computer lab, assignments and exams
