General Pharmacology
Course Title

Course Description
Designed for the student who has a basic understanding of the human body and how it works. This course emphasizes the major drug classifications, related legal/ethical considerations, pharmakokinetics, pharmakodynamics, drug toxicity and therapeutic monitoring.

Course Objectives
At the completion of the course, the student should be able to:
1. Discuss development of pharmacology and its relation to health care.
2. Analyze impact of legal/ethical considerations on use of drugs.
3. Apply knowledge of biological, psychological and social factors to clinical situations.
4. Analyze drug absorption and possible reactions.
5. Discuss drug classifications including action, side effects, legal/ ethical considerations, and monitoring.

3. Grading contract system utilized as follows:
B. Successful completion 10 homework assignments and review sheets; not more than four (4) absences; frequent class participation, written summary of project, critique of one article
C. Successful completion 8 homework assignments and review sheets; not more than six (6) absences; occasional class participation, critique of two articles
Failure to meet the above criteria for a C will result in a D or F based on completed assignments.
Failure to meet above criteria for contracted grade, will result in a grade reflecting work completed.
4. Attendance
