PEH 245 - Dr Black - - MID-TERM ADULT CPR SKILLS
1. Position Victim - demonstrate on partner
- Check Scene
- Establish unresponsiveness (tap, speak)
- Send for help - "Call 911, we have an unconscious victim"
- Check for breathing (none)
- Move near arm overhead against ear
- Hand grabs neck, other grabs hip
- Roll victim over keeping head in line with body
- Straighten person out
2. Obstructed Airway - demonstrate on partner (easy pressure)
- Ask, "Are you choking? I can help!"
- Send for help "We have a choking victim"
- Give five back blows
- Fist on lower abdomen just above navel
- Elbows out, thumb in, one hand over other
- Inward and upward five abdominal thrusts, short pause between each
- Repeat 5 back blows & 5 thrusts until success or unconsciousness
3. Rescue Breathing (demonstrate on manikin)
- Check Scene
- Establish unresponsiveness
- Send for help
- Open airway
- Look, listen, feel for breathing (none)
- Two slow breaths (successful)
- Check for pulse (OK)
Check for severe bleeding (none)
- Mouth-to-mouth, 12 breaths in about1 minute
- Recheck pulse
- Continue until?
4. Obstructed Airway - unconscious (demonstrate on manikin)
- Check Scene
- Establish unresponsiveness
- Send for help
- Open airway
- Look, listen, feel for breathing (none)
- Try two slow breaths (unsuccessful)
- Reopen airway & retry two slow breaths (unsuccessful)
- 30 chest compressions in about 18 seconds
- Grab jaw & mouth check (finger sweep if object observed)
- Open airway - two slow breaths (repeat if unsuccessful)
- Continue until?
5. CPR (demonstrate on manikin)
- Check Scene
- Establish unresponsiveness
- Send for help
- Open airway
- Look, listen, feel for breathing (none)
- Two slow breaths (successful)
- Check for pulse (none)
- Check for severe bleeding (none)
- Correct hand placement (middle of chest)
- Correct rescuer position (directly over chest)
- Press chest 1½ to 2 inches straight down
- 30 chest compressions in about 18 seconds
- Two rescue breaths, then repeat compressions & breaths
- Recheck pulse
- Continue until?
